The field of Equine-Assisted Interventions (EAI) is rich in the variety of practices and approaches that are offered. EAIs can be loosely categorized as follows, keeping in mind that there may be overlap between the categories. For instance, equine-assisted therapy/learning and therapeutic riding share some things in common, just as therapeutic riding and hippotherapy have many commonalities. However, they are all distinct approaches that have different goals, philosophies and techniques, and require different training.
